COURSE DESCRIPTION

Group piano classes are designed for children to learn piano with a caregiver (parent, grandparent, or nanny) in a small group setting:  3 children maximum per class with one parent/caregiver each. Caregivers do not need prior musical instruction. This class is ideal for the family that would like to try out piano to see if it is a good fit, and for families that want to build a good groundwork in preparation for private lessons. Classes are designed to both introduce students to beginning piano concepts and to build a solid groundwork for future piano study, with a  focus on technique, ear training, reading, and theory.

By the sixth week all students will have several songs memorized, will have started work on finger independence and wrist/hand balance, will be familiar with the geography of the piano keyboard and basic terminology, and will have been introduced to the process and concepts involved in reading musical scores.

Students must have access to a piano or keyboard outside of class, and are expected to spend time on practice (and play!) between classes. While both child and parent will be students in this class, the materials and exercises will be geared toward the children’s learning styles and level.

These classes are taught on a shared acoustic grand piano (not keyboards). Classes are offered for children between the ages of 4 and eight years old. Children will be placed in an appropriate class for their age group.

All classes taught by Barbara Lieurance. To enroll or for more information, contact Barbara HERE.

PRIVATE LESSONS: If you would prefer an “a la carte” approach to summer lessons, private or semiprivate lessons are a good option. If you would like to request a group class time other than those listed, feel free to contact Barbara.
